Brihadeeswarar temple or the Periya Koil or the Big Temple in Tanjore turned 1000 years in September 2010. This temple was built in 1010 AD at the Chola capital of Thanjavur under the aegis of Kind Rajaraja Chola.
It is a must visit temple for both pilgrims and lovers of architecture.
The presiding deity is Lord Shiva in the form of a Lingam called Peruvudaiya, Rajarajeshwaramudvya. The inner wall of the garbhagriha or the sanctum sanctorum has sculptures of 108 dance poses called karmas performed by Lord Shiva himself.

Tiruchendur Murugan Temple (Subramanya Swamy)
Thiruchendur Murugan temple is a very famous temple in South Tamilnadu in the Tuticorin district. It is one of the six famous abodes of Lord Muruga (the second of the aaru padai veedu), the Tirunchendur temple located on a beautiful sea shore.
Lord Muruga is said to have killed the demon king Sooran at this place. Kanda Shasti is the most famous of the festivals of this temples. Celebrated from the day after New Moon Day following Diwali, the six days witness lakhs of devotees visiting this holy shrine.

Chidambara Natarajar Temple
Chidambaram Temple is one of the 5 holiest Shiva temples. The Chidambaram Natarajar Temple or the Thillai Natarajar temple represents akasha or aether amongst the five natural elements that the 5 Shiva temples represent.
Lord Shiva is present in 3 forms in this temple - As Lingam, in the dancing posture as Natarajar and in the invisible as the Chidambara Ragasiyam (Chidambara Secret).
The Poojas in the temple is performed by the Dheekshitars, who, according to legend have been brought from Mount Kailash.
The temple is located close to Pondichery and is about 4 hours driving distance from Chennai.
